It is not easy for those children who survive sexual assaults or are molested. As they grow, they develop various coping mechanisms. Some may become sexually active with many partners; some may be sexually active with a few partners and some may not be sexual with anyone, not even with themselves. However, that is if they grow and becomes a social part of the society. But, Texas lawmakers are talking tough about cracking down on sexual predators who prey on children. Some propose the death penalty for repeat offenders, potentially creating hundreds more death row inmates in a state that already executes more than any other does.

The whole idea is to send a clear signal to these monsters so that they will think twice before committing such an odious crime. However, nothing could be better than a death penalty to such monsters but looking at the worry the death penalty may lead to more murders of the victims, as child sex cases often have no witness other than the victim.

Even if one is a first time offender, a child molestation or child sexual abuse conviction carries one of the greatest risks for serving a very long state prison sentence, in addition to spending a lifetime as a registered sex offender. However, false accusations unfortunately are frequently made against innocent people and result in prosecutors issuing bizarre and illogical child molestation and child sexual abuse charges that can turn the accused person’s life upside down in an instant. And what makes it worse is that most child-molestation happens from a family member and in such cases a molested child may be pressured not to testify if the accused faces a long prison sentence or the death penalty.

Advocating on part of an abuser in the light of fresh laws in Texas might sound like saying the Red Cross promotes malaria or CARE causes malnutrition. Child sexual molest is real, it happens, and it is terrible. Whether or not it is as prevalent and widespread as the media would let us believe is subject to considerable debate. Child sexual abuse issues are complex as these issues bring out the strongest bias in the dependency system. However, the lawmakers have made a little attempt to view or treat sexual abuse on a scale of cruelty. There is a need to make a distinction between molest and assault. If all the molest issues are treated in much the same way the chances to grind the whole system to a halt rises pretty high.
