The new executive order that was signed by the US President George W Bush would surely bring respite for lot many innocent people who are charged of terrorism every year . The new order allows CIA for harsh questioning of the suspects but the "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" of terror suspects will now be completely banned and therefore no one will be tortured physically, mentally and will be pounded on religious beliefs. The order comes as the present interrogation tecniques were facing a lot of criticism at home and abroad which were used on suspected militants. These methods were inhuman as the suspects were deprived of sleep, kept at extreme cold or hot temperatures and ‘water boarding’ technique was used on them in which the suspect was tied to a plank on water and was scared that he will drown. American authorities say that they have never used such methods for interrogation, as they are not clear if they are allowed to do so. The director of Physicians for Human Rights, Leonard Rubenstein said: What is needed now is repudiation of brutal and cruel interrogation methods. General statements like this are inadequate, particularly after years of evidence that torture was authorized at the highest levels and utilised by US forces. The White House too has refused to comment that at present the CIA had a detention and interrogation program and added that if it had, it would surely stick to its rules and regulations. CIA Director Mr Hayden feels that the executive order insures that CIA officers will carry out their duties properly, keeping with the laws of the United States. Whereas military lawyers are saying that the order is just a way of protecting CIA officers who in same cases get sued by US courts if they are charged for abusing prisoners. For the executive order, Mr Hayden will issue written policies to govern the program and he has asked the justice department to prepare a legal opinion on methods the agency can use for the same. People are very much likely to oppose the new rule as it is still vague and has a scope that allows the administration to use harsh techniques.
