Having got of to a great start and till a year ago considered the top contender, John McCain campaign has melted down fast.
It’s also a classic case of hype imploding in your face. Of the $ 44 million raised for funding the campaign, $ 42 million has been spent. And the primaries have not even begun.

Troubles come in multiples and with the collapse of the immigration bill, McCain stands exposed on the issue. Hard line Republicans don’t agree with the bill of allowing lawbreakers to benefit by relaxing immigration laws

In the face of growing opposition, McCain unflinching support for the Iraq war has cost his campaign dear. The decade old ambition of donning presidential clothes to keep the American policy on track is collapsing.

Yet the Arizonian senator may not drop out before he has tested the waters in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. He firmly believes that the American forces are doing their best to save a defeat in Iraq.

Unfortunately, that is a view out of sync with the people. Most hold the premise on which the nation went to war as unjust. Being a war veteran, McCain will probably fight till the last post, even in the face of utter defeat.

With less cash to run an ace election, it has necessitated firing an overstaffed bandwagon but with chief campaign manager Terry Nelson and old friend and chief strategist John Weaver departing, McCain’s bid is nearing its end. Even Texan congressman Ron Paul has more money at hand than McCain to keep his bid alive.

Reviving the bid is going to be hard as crucial support is fast sinking. Ed Failor Jr part of McCain campaign team in Iowa has announced “As much as I like Senator McCain, it’s not a team I’m willing to stay involved with any longer”

Eulogies about him are beginning to appear and Rudolph Giuliani and Matt Romney stand to gain.
