It seems that law makers, sitting in their air conditioned home or office of world super power US are not willing to look at problems of their own country men who are fighting for the reason they don’t believe in. In the recent update about Iraq war, Democrats had presented a bill which says that US troops should have time off between tours in Iraq equal to their 15-month deployments. But unfortunately, this bill could not be implemented due to Republican senators who are strongly against it. According to Pentagon Secretary Robert Gates, it is a back-door attempt to pull troops off the battlefield. It seems that Democrats want to wind off the Iraq war. Democrats needed 60 votes to pass the bill, but they fall few votes short and only managed 56 votes in favor of it. However, extended deployment of troops and that too under the extreme conditions has not only exposed them to the physical wrath of Islamic militants, but also exhausted them psychological and caused war sickness in most of the foreign soldiers combating in volatile Iraq, prompting them to quit the military. The Democrat Senator Majority leader Harry Reid said, In blocking this bipartisan bill, Republicans have once again demonstrated that they are more committed to protecting the president than protecting our troops. There is another point I would like to mention, up to how long US can keep its army in Iraq? Till now, approximately $500 billion had been spend on Iraq war that could well be used cater health care and other needs. Now the time has come when Bush Administration should decide exactly how many troops they would leave and for how long US men will be there in Iraq?
