Military isn’t a lasting way out for Iraq, Obama

American foreign policy in the Middle East (rather war on Iraq) has earned an extensive criticism for President Bush. Not only the so-called ‘war on terror’ ruined Iraq from top to bottom, by dividing and pushing the nation into never-ending seatrain violence, it also engaged American forces to face the perils of Islamic terrorism for years in an alien land. With presidential election approaching closer, the leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination looks to fall into line with the campaign to call for a pullout of all American troops from Iraq, before the situation become worse to retrieve. While Democratic leaders in the Senate have been planning to utilize August break to turn the heat on Republicans to break with Bush administration on the Iraq war, the Democratic contenders for the White House are looking to bring the important issue into play to breed their bid and generate as much support as possible in the crucial phase of their Presidential campaign. Given that ‘there is no military solution for a longer run in Iraq,’ Sen. Barack Obama while speaking to the US military veterans in Kansas City yesterday pledges to pull the troops from Iraq, if he would be given the opportunity to lead the US in the days to come. Addressing the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) convention, Obama asserted, All of our top military commanders recognize that there is no military solution in Iraq. No military surge can succeed without political reconciliation and a surge of diplomacy in Iraq and the region. Iraq’s leaders are not reconciling. They are not achieving political benchmarks. The only thing they seem to have agreed on is to take a vacation. However, Obama praised the US forces, for their brilliant performance. Obama addressed the VFW gathering only a day after Sen. Hillary Clinton, his chief rival in race for Democratic presidential nomination, put forward her stance on the foreign policy, particularly Middle East and war on Iraq. Whether the troops, especially US, remain in or out of the volatile Iraq, one thing is sure that the ‘Iraq War’ has become a major issue and will play an important role in steering the destiny of various candidates in the forthcoming Presidential Elections in the United States.
