The eleventh-hour accumulation to a federal spending bill at the closing stages of the 109th (last) U.S. Congress brought the doomsday for the U S civilians, for the shocking bill, proposed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, render the civilians vulnerable for military court trials. Supporting the new bill Graham asserts,

Right now, you have two different standards for people doing the same job. This (the new bill) will bring uniformity to the commander’s ability to control the behavior of people representing our country.

Previously, civilians could only be tried under the military law for the phase of war or extreme conditions, but the new bill authorizes the Military Justice to suit the civilians at any time without any external meddling.

President Bush signed the bill into a law that makes the government workforce, journalists and other employees entitled for suit or hearing under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The point, of equivalent yardstick for civilian and military culprits, given by Lindsey Graham doesn’t seem too rational, as it would be too hard on the lesser offenders to sue them in military courts with court-martialed criminals. This military regulations bill, doubtlessly, will pose legal confrontations in the United States, for civilians are never gonna accept (willingly) the militia obsessed judgments that often are charged with the violation of human rights.
